Do you ever feel like some days God wants to talk to you? I am not one of those people that has never heard the audible voice of God. This being said, some days I feel like he turns the volume up to 11 to speak to me. I think his first attempt to speak me was giving me a healthy serving of ‘Humble Pie” that I’m still full from. He then gave the insight to have me stop, turn to the boys on the bench and see the love that they share for each other. I really believe these boys genuinely like being together all the time. After the 2nd game as I was leaving and really just thinking about baseball, Grandma Gentry (Jake) approached me with a look that concerned me. I know Grandma Gentry was a school teacher for many years and I was about to get an earful. I felt like I was about to go to the principal’s office. Instead, her face turned to a smile and she reached in a bag and pulled out 2 books, Tim Tebow’s “Through My Eye’s”, and Clayton Kershaw’s “Arise”. What a generous and thoughtful surprise. I had mentioned while in Palm Springs how I was excited to read both these books. The true gift came when I opened up each book and written by Grandma Gentry were words of encouragement: “Thank You for all you do for the team”. “This is a great book for everyone! It inspires your walk, a must read for all, please share with the team.” Quick, think, who did we play the 2nd game of our tournament at BLD in December? Does it really matter? God was not done with me yet yesterday…… I then went to watch my JoJo play in an 8 yr old tournament in West Covina. Upon arrival, Jo-man sprinted across where he was warming up and leapt in to my arms, his mouth running a 100 mph about his first game. Fast forward 2 hours after enduring some pretty rough baseball…. Getting close to home after a long day and maybe God is done, wrong. After making some pretty amazing steaks, my amazing wife asked if we could rent a movie. Nice, can’t think how God will keep talking to me watching a movie about some silly “Chick Movie” that my wife usually requests to watch and I fall asleep. Instead, she wanted to watch Courageous. No academy award coming for this one, at least not from Hollywood. Now if God gives them out for inspiring a Father, hands down a winner. My buddy Rob (Ryno) has been all over me to watch this movie and I have more excuses then a teenage boy. Now I am challenging/asking/inspiring you to take a couple hours and watch this movie as a family. Some times we need to take an inventory of life, no matter our age, rank, current problems, whatever? What are your goals and expectations for yourself? Boys, what kind of man do you want to become? What are you doing to prepare to become that kind of man? Parents, what are we modeling for our kids? I love music, words inspire me. Today I heard the song Beautiful Day by U2 and God was at it again talking to me…. I want to leave you with a few verses from the song:
You're on the road
But you've got no destination
You're in the mud
In the maze of her imagination
It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
It's a beautiful day
Touch me
Take me to that other place
Reach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case
What you don't have you don't need it now
What you don't know you can feel it somehow
What you don't have you don't need it now
Don't need it now
Was a beautiful day
Our verse of the week:
2 Timothy 4:22
The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you all.
